Introduction

Sri Tukaram Ganapathy Maharaj inherited his passion for protecting and preserving cows from his parents and grandparents and has been actively involved in it for many years.
In the year 1996, he started "Go Samrakshana Trust" with the sole intention of protecting and preserving aged and disabled cows with the blessings of his Guru Sri Krishnapremi Maharaj and Sri Baba Maharaj Satarkar.

“MATRAH SARVA BHUTANAM GAVAH SARV SUKH PRADA”
The Mother of all living entities; "The Cow"; gives all pleasures to everyone.

Our Shastras sing the glory of the cow in many a verses. The significance of cows is shown by this sloka:-
SARVE DEVAAH STHITA DEHE SARVA DEVAMAYEEHI GAU
....  which means that all the deities dwell in the body of a cow.
Cows are repected as personification of all Devathas(Gods). The Cow symbolizes Dharma itself. It is said to have stood steadily upon the earth with its four feet during the krethayug, upon three feet during the Tretayug, upon two feet during the Dwaparyug and only on one leg during Kaliyug.
Lord Krishna and his brother Balarama represent krishi-raksha (protecting Bulls by engaging them in farming) and go-raksha (protecting the Cows).Lord Krishna emphazises the importance of go raksha(protection of cows) by tending them with a flute in his hand and he himself is known as Gopala(protector of the Cows) or Govinda (one who gives pleasure to the Cows)
Our Vedas name the cow as ASAGHYNA meaning inviolable. Another name is AHI meaning not to be killed and ADITI meaning never to be cut into pieces.

Objective

Thus, As ordained in our shastras and with the blessings of his Guru Maharaj, Sri Tukaram Ganapathy Maharaj started the trust with the purpose to protect and cherish cows; giving it an apt name "GO SAMRAKSHANA" - 'Go' meaning Cow and 'Samrakshana' meaning Preservation.

Activities of the trust

Sri Sri Tukaram Ganapathy Maharaj is actively involved in protecting cows’ especially non-milking aged cows for over a decade now. Various activities are carried out by the Go Samrakshana Trust in protecting these vruddha (aged) cows.

The trust is dedicated towards
  • Protecting vruddha cows from being sent to slaughter houses.
  • Cows meant for slaughter are brought to the goshala at Kadayanallur and provided with food, shelter and medical attention.Above and all they are showered with love and affection.
  • Utmost care is taken in attending to their daily requirements.
The Trust does not get any income from the cows, but spends a lot daily to take care of them, to feed them and to provide amenities to cows.

How can you help?

Our Hindu Dharma ordains us to worship and feed cows daily. But in this age, thinking of the welfare of the poor and disabled cows in itself may be considered by many as worshipping them . It would be more meaningful if we can support and help those "Gau Sewa" kendras trying to protect the cows from the butchers' hand and save the poor and old cows, providing them a peaceful life.
It needs a helping hand from each one of us. Taking care of cows is more difficult than taking care of human beings.

All are welcome to associate themselves in the upkeep of the ‘Goshala’ in any manner they desire by extending their hand of cooperation. Donations to Go Samrakshana Trust is exempted under 80-G of the Income Tax Act,1961.
